Attempts on Her Life 4 september to 6 september 2008

Hilarious and shocking by turn, Martin Crimp's Attempts on Her Life is a roller coaster of modern-day obsessions and contradictions , ranging from consumerism and abundance to boredom and emptiness, from hard-won sexual freedom to sexual abuse, from amusement and entertainment to terrorism and violence.
In an accumulation of scenarios, voices try to tell the perfect story about the world in which we live. Each scenario creates a new perspective on Anne. A character that, through her various guises, becomes an absurd notion, an emptiness filled with other peoples ideas and opinions.
In hometown Leiden, the Veenfabriek staged Attempts on Her Life in V&D, the main department store in the Netherlands. A highly suitable location to create a striking image of modern Western society.
Martin Crimp is among the most praised and most-performed contemporary British playwrights. Attempts on Her Life is considered to be one of his most important works.
