Crystal 13 juni to 14 juni 2009
Crystal - staged and created by the Veenfabriek - is an homage to Edgard Varèse (1883-1965). Defying strong opposition and condemnation, Varèse spent his whole life trying to liberate sounds from their historical confines. Varèse added new musical instruments, including the siren, to the existing orchestral instrumentation, thereby modernizing music.
Crystal is an concertante portrait narrated, sung and instrumentally performed by the Veenfabriek's ten member siren orchestra. In doing so, the Veenfabriek is helping to make Varèse's dream come true and joining his crusade for unbridled musical experimentation.
