Orfeo (based on Monteverdi) 10 september to 20 september 2009

Comforting madrigals, contemporary improvised music and all the best the mediterrean cuisine has to offer: De Veenfabriek presents an exclusive performance with actor-singer Jeroen Willems, Track and culinary adventurer André Amaro.
Orfeo is based on the myth of Orpheus and his Eurydice. Starting from Monteverdi's Orfeo and taking inspiration from various interpretations on Orpheus (such as Black Orpheus from Astrud Gilberto), Jeroen Willems and Track celebrate the legendary musicality of Orpheus, his desire and grief over a lost lover. During the performance, André Amaro prepares the most tantalizing dishes using fresh, Mediterranean ingredients.

New York! New York!
From September 10 till 20 the New Island Festival will take place on Governors Island, New York, as part of the NY400 celebrations.
More than twenty Dutch artists and theater groups have been selected to perform at this unique festival, which combines the best of Oerol and the Parade. There will be site-specific theater performances, concerts and visual arts using the landscape of Governors Island, an island in the middle of the Hudson River, New York Harbor (a mere 10 minute ferry journey from New York City). The artists will utilize the waterfront promenade, historic homes, barracks and green open spaces to re-imagine this island.
